Tyler releases new Total Eclipse

Bonnie Tyler
The original 1983 song has sold more than six million copies

Bonnie Tyler has recorded a new version of her 1983 hit song Total Eclipse of the Heart with Only Men Aloud!, winners of the BBC's Last Choir Standing.

Tyler first joined up with the 18-strong all-male Welsh choir to perform the song in Cardiff as part of their UK tour in April.

But she was so impressed at the song's arrangement by choir founder Tim Rhys-Evans, she decided to re-record it.

The new version of the track will be released on 12 October.

"I'm delighted with this version of Total Eclipse and it is wonderful to be working with such a great choir as Only Men Aloud!," Tyler said.

"I am so happy that the legendary Jim Steinman, who wrote this beautiful song, has told me how much he adores this recording of it."

The original song, which has sold more than six million copies, went to number one in the UK, USA, the Irish Republic, Australia, New Zealand and Canada.

It made Tyler the first Welsh artist to reach the top of the US charts, beating both Tom Jones and Dame Shirley Bassey.

The Swansea-born singer also released a bilingual version of the song in 2004 in France, dueting with singer Kareen Antonn, which reached number one.

Only Men Aloud! signed a five-album record deal last year after winning the BBC singing contest in August.
