Chris Cuomo Collides With GOP Rep Over Mueller, Tax Reform: ‘CNN’s Not Your Problem, Your Position Is’

CNN’s Chris Cuomo had Congressman Matt Gaetz (R-FL) on for an interview today, which led to a heated session as the two fought it out over taxes and the integrity of Robert Mueller‘s investigation.

When the discussion began, Gaetz blasted the special counsel by citing the recent intrigue surrounding Peter Strzok, the anti-Trump FBI agent who was recently reassigned from the Russia investigation. Even though Strzok has slammed a lot of different people and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein has said there is no good reason to remove Mueller as special counsel, Gaetz said it was clear that the investigation is biased and Mueller ought to be fired by the Justice Department.

When Cuomo challenged him about whether there’s an actual case that the investigation is corrupt, Gaetz argued that the amount of pro-Clinton figures involved proves that there’s a “pervasive conflict of interests.” Cuomo pushed back by noting that Mueller was a figure of bipartisan approval not very long ago, and that by accusing the FBI of bias, the GOP is making the same claims Team Clinton used to make.

As the two continued to spar over whether the investigation has been compromised, they eventually moved on to the congressional push for tax reform, where Cuomo said the current bill has no chance of relieving the national deficit despite any economic growth that might come out of it. This led to a debate about the country’s economic confidence levels, as well as whether corporations will benefit more from the new tax cuts than actual taxpayers.

In time, Gaetz accused CNN of never giving President Trump any credit on the economy, which prompted Cuomo to scold him and tell him to “stick to the facts.” Cuomo noted that Trump used to diminish economic indicators like the stock market’s performance before he got into office, though he has changed his tune on such things since then.

The debate eventually saw Gaetz double back and attack CNN again, which earned him a stronger reprimand from Cuomo.

“Did you ever hear the expression: ‘If you don’t have the facts argue the law. If you don’t have the facts, argue the law, and if don’t you have either, bang on the table and start yelling.’ That’s what you’re doing. CNN’s not your problem, my friend, your position is.”
