2025 Land Rover Range Rover Velar Overview-title

By Jil McIntosh

2025 Land Rover Range Rover Velar

Having had a makeover for 2024, the Land Rover Range Rover Velar continues into 2025 with minor changes. We’ve listed its full name here, but for the record, the automaker is now officially JLR, rather than Jaguar Land Rover; and Range Rover is now a brand on its own, alongside Defender and Discovery, plus Jaguar. In the brand lineup, the midsize Velar slots in below the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport, and above the Evoque. The five-seater Velar comes with three engine choices, two of them with mild hybrid systems, and faces such rivals as the BMW X5, Mercedes-Benz GLE, and Porsche Macan.

What’s new with the Range Rover Velar for 2025?

There are only a few changes to the 2025 Range Rover Velar. A full-size spare is no longer available; nor are 20-inch wheels, or the 21-inch Satin Dark Grey wheels on the Dynamic SE models. The keyless entry system now includes standard walk-away locking and unlocking, and there are software updates to some of the driver-assist safety technologies.

2025 Range Rover Velar Performance

The 2025 Range Rover Velar is offered as the Dynamic SE, with two engine options, and as the higher-powered Dynamic HSE. The SE models start with a gasoline-only 2.0L four-cylinder, known as the P250, which makes 247 horsepower and 269 lb-ft of torque. The P340 uses a 3.0L six-cylinder with mild hybrid system that makes 335 horsepower and 354 lb-ft of torque. The HSE also uses the mild-hybrid six-cylinder, but here it’s known as the P400 and with 395 horsepower and 406 lb-ft of torque.

In both the P340 and P400, the self-charging hybrid system uses a belt-integrated starter-generator that provides fuel-free electric engine assist, but the Velar can’t drive on electricity alone. An eight-speed automatic takes care of shift duties, and all-wheel drive (AWD) is standard equipment.

In his review of the 2024 Range Rover Velar, Derek McNaughton said, “The P400 we drove felt plenty quick, the suspension well sorted, with great steering and positive braking feel. The Velar drives more like a large sedan than a large utility. Passing power is plentiful. Like all Range Rovers, the Velar gets genuine off-road credentials that can be equally useful on road. Full-time automatic AWD, an active rear-locking differential, configurable ‘Terrain Response 2’ driving modes, and an optional air suspension system with 100 millimetres of travel are all part of the kit.”

2025 Range Rover Velar Efficiency

Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) hadn’t rated the 2025 Velar at time of writing, but the 2024 model with 2.0L P250 engine gets 10.9 L/100 km city, 8.9 highway, and 10.0 combined. The P340 is rated at 12.1 city, 9.0 highway, and 10.7 combined; while the P400 is 12.6 city, 9.4 highway, and 11.1 combined. All ask for premium-grade gasoline.

2025 Range Rover Velar Safety

Neither the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) nor the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has rated the Range Rover Velar. Standard driver-assist features include automatic high-beam headlamps, rain-sensing wipers, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, emergency front braking, drowsy driver alert, lane-keep assist, front and rear parking sensors, adaptive cruise control with steering assist, and mandatory rearview camera.

2025 Range Rover Velar Reliability Rating

Consumer Reports gives the 2024 Range Rover Velar a predicted reliability rating of just 30/100, and said it expects it to be “less reliable than other new cars,” based on Land Rover’s brand history. The Velar didn’t win an individual award in the J.D. Power 2024 U.S. Vehicle Dependability Study, and Land Rover as a brand ranked 27th among all automakers, three up from the bottom over Audi and Chrysler.

2025 Range Rover Velar Interior

Depending on the trim, the Range Rover Velar’s features include a panoramic sunroof, premium Meridian sound system, 14-way adjustable front seats, heated steering wheel, heated and cooled seats, wireless charger, and 11.4-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

In his review of the 2024 Range Rover Velar, Derek McNaughton said, “The Velar’s fit and finish has always been decent, but now feels somewhat better than before. A new noise-cancelling system all but eliminates outside intrusions, making the cabin a genuinely calming space. Only at speeds above 130 km/hr could some slight wind noise be heard around the side mirrors. An optional air-purification system can further enhance a sense of wellness. The optional Meridian 3D Surround audio system, with 17 speakers and 750W, is an absolute must have. Range Rover’s English or Scottish leather can be lovely, of course, but the Velar continues to offer a leather-free option combining wool from Danish textile experts Kvadrat with polyurethane textile inserts. The fabric will wear better than leather over time and be more comfortable in the cold and heat.”

2025 Range Rover Velar Dimensions

The 2025 Range Rover Velar has an overall length of 4,797 mm (188.8 inches). Front passengers get 1,023 mm (38 inches) of legroom, and rear-seat passengers receive almost the same at 944 mm (37 inches). With the second row in place, cargo capacity is 568 litres, and when it’s folded, that increases to 1,374 litres. With an unbraked trailer, the Velar can tow up to 750 kg (1,653 lbs), while with a braked trailer, it can handle up to 2,400 kg (5,291 lbs).
