Garden report: Good news, the lilac has bloomed. The late fall flowers on the lilac bush did not seem to have an impact this spring. The flowering cherry and crabapple trees have bloomed.

The onions, shallots, snow peas and potatoes have been planted.

The Leverett Village Co-op is hosting its annual outdoor Spring Fling Festival on Saturday, May 11 from 1 to 4 p.m., according to an email from Kari Ridge of Leverett. The event includes live music, lawn games, children’s activities, a wine-tasting, samples, auction items, tool sharpening and care with Ben Goldberg, pizza slices and scooped ice cream cones. Myrtle Street Klezmer and Silverback Swing will provide the music.

The co-op is at 180 Rattlesnake Gutter Road. Call 413-367-9794 if the weather is doubtful to see if the festival has been rescheduled.

The Emily Dickinson Museum will host the annual Poetry Walk in honor of the 138th anniversary of Emily Dickinson’s death. The walk goes through downtown Amherst. This year’s walk celebrates the re-opening of the Evergreens house with stops that explore its significance to Amherst’s cultural landscape and to the poet herself.

Dickinson poems will be read at each site. This program is free.

The League of Women Voters, of which I am a member, continues the Judy Brooks Conversation series on May 14 at 7 p.m. on Zoom. Social worker and musician Jacqueline Wallace will be featured and discuss her work for racial justice and equity.

Wallace has been a caring and dedicated clinical social worker serving Amherst for over 40 years, according to an email from League member Bonnie Isman of Amherst. “In addition, she inspires the community as the director of the Amherst Area Gospel Choir. The choir promotes gospel singing and the development of Black gospel music in its spiritual and artistic form,” she wrote.

Mickey Rathbun, who writes a garden column in the Gazette, sent a save the date email. The annual Garden Club of Amherst plant sale will be held Saturday, May 18 from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., rain or shine, on the Town Common. “It’s a great opportunity to buy top quality plants, locally grown by garden club members,” Rathbun wrote.
