Buena Vista Social Orchestra announces Detroit concert

Group is an offshoot of Buena Vista Social Club.

The Buena Vista Social Orchestra, an offshoot of the celebrated Cuban music ensemble Buena Vista Social Club, will perform at the Fillmore Detroit on Nov. 3, the band's reps announced Monday.

Tickets for the show go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday via Ticketmaster channels, and pre-sales start at 10 a.m. Tuesday.

The show is the closing date on the group's 37-date U.S. tour, which also includes a Sept. 15 date at Grand Rapids' Meijer Gardens.

Original Buena Vista Social Club band leader, arranger and trombonist Jesus "Aguaje" Ramos will act as conductor and music director of the new group, which includes original BVSC members Luis "Betun" Mariano Valiente Marin (congas, bongo), Emilio Senon Morales Ruiz (keys), and Fabian Garcia (bass), as well as Lorena Lazara Ramos Diaz (trombone, vocals), Aldo Isidro Miranda Alvarez (vocals), Geidi Chapman (vocals, guitar), Antonio Remigio Rubio Borayo (timbal, percussion) and Rogelio Ricardo Oliva Orelly (emcee, vocals).

Buena Vista Social Club was the subject of an Oscar-nominated 1999 documentary as well as a 2017 follow-up, "Buena Vista Social Club: Adios."
