George Washington III is going from the Big Ten to the Atlantic 10.

After one year in Ann Arbor, the next stop of the former Wolverine’s college career will take him to Richmond. The Spiders announced Washington’s official addition as a transfer on Thursday.

George Washington III (40) is the fifth former Wolverine to find a new home this offseason.

As the lone freshman on Michigan’s roster last season, Washington appeared in 22 games off the bench and played sparingly. The 6-foot-2, 170-pound guard totaled 26 points, seven rebounds and six assists in 6.5 minutes per game.

Washington entered the transfer portal on March 18, the first day it officially opened, not long after Juwan Howard was fired. He then withdrew on April 11, weeks after new coach Dusty May was hired.

However, Washington re-entered the portal on April 29 after May added five guards during Michigan’s roster rebuild — three transfers in Rubin Jones (North Texas), Tre Donaldson (Auburn) and Roddy Gayle Jr. (Ohio State) and a pair of 2024 recruits in Justin Pippen and Lorenzo Cason.

Washington, a former top-100 recruit, has three years of eligibility remaining and will look to play a larger role at Richmond, where he’ll play for longtime coach Chris Mooney. The Spiders are coming off a 23-10 season where they earned a share of the A-10 regular-season title — along with Loyola Chicago — with a 15-3 conference record.

Washington is the fifth former Wolverine to head elsewhere this offseason. Dug McDaniel transferred to Kansas State, Youssef Khayat landed at Bowling Green, Tarris Reed Jr. left for UConn and Terrance Williams II joined USC.
